Bass amp question...?
This question is for those electricians/musicians. I just got a new Behringer Ultrabass amp head that is rated at 450 watts. Currently, I have only two Crate cabinets rated at 200 watts each and a PA cabinet rated at 350. The Behringer manual states that my cabinets should have a sufficient power rating and a 4 ohm impedance (the Crates are capable of 8), and that too high a load impedance will decrease the output power rating of the power stage...
I didn't get a chance to study electronics in high school. So anyone who can put this into English and offer a solution to my problem gets 10 points. I'm thinking of just plugging in the amp to the two Crates at 8 ohms and not turning up the volume very much. Any other solutions?
When you hook the two 8 ohm cabinets together it will make the combination of them 4 ohms. In other words this cuts the origional ohms in half. They should handle the wattage as long as you don't push them wide open constantly.
