Can I use a normal mixer for a PA system?
I have a Behringer Xenyx 1202 mixer, (http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/1202.aspx), and was wondering if using this as the mixer would work for a PA System. It seems much cheaper to buy the PA Speakers than the whole package. Would this work? Or does the mixer in a PA have a special job that my mixer cannot do?
Thanks.
It depends on the system... What is a "normal" PA?
What amps are powering the speakers?
Sometimes the speakers have amps in them - "powered speakers". But sometimes they don't which means the amps can be separate (Hafler, Crown, etc...) or the mixer can contain the amp...
In your case, the 1202 does not have a built-in amp, so either there needs to be an external amp to use with it or the speakers need to be powered speakers.
All three configurations are "normal" PA systems.
