can I match this bass cab and head?

I am planning on buying this amp (Gallien-Krueger Goldline 4x10 Bass Cabinet) and I am looking for a cheap but good quality head to go with it. I was thinking a Behringer BX4500H Ultrabass Bass Head as it's 450W and the cab is 400W so that is pretty close. I would really appreciate some solid feedback about if these 2 items will work together or if they won't what is another cheap head (under $300 preferably) head that would go along with this cab. Links to the two items on musicians friend.com are below

Hello there,

I tried your links and got index type pages in both cases. You may want to check your links.

Later,

Hello again,

I did manage to find both the head and the speaker cab there at Musician's Friend.

Head

Speaker Cab

Two points to consider with matching heads and speakers. Watts and Ohms. I know it can be done, but I am strongly against mismatching impedance (running a 8 ohm amp into 4 ohm speaker cab). It messy up the sound. It may or may not fry your amp (depending on the type of mismatch), but it is going to effect your sound. I also think it is a bad idea to run a head with more power than your speakers can handle (a 450 watt head with only 400 watt speakers). Those are the general things to watch. Sure different speakers are going to sound different and you need to pick the type of sound you are looking for.

This speaker cab is 400 watts at 8 ohms. I cannot find the impedance for the head. It is listed as 450 watts, so my gut feeling is that this is a bad match.

The user reviews on the speaker cab are not helpful at Harmony Central (unusual, normally great).

The reviews are greatly mixed on the head.

Personally, I have always considered the Behringer amps to be cheapy amps and for that reason have never owned one. Some of the reviewers really liked this head. Others hated it. Read them for yourself and see what you think.

I would also suggest running down the impedance on the head to see if it is 8 ohm. I would also not do this match myself, I don't like the idea of an amp with 450 watts of power and blowing my speakers that can only handle 400 watts. You may get by with it, but may not. It is your money if you want to gamble.
