Could I use a Behringer Xenyx 802 to connect my guitar to my PC and guitar rig software?
If I connect my guitar to this mixer and the mixer to my PC will it allow me to record my guitar with Guitar Rig without delay?
No, sorry. Delay, or better latency, is caused by the sound interface which you use. By what you wrote I assume that your set up will look like this: guitar => mixer => sound interface => software. To record without latency, you would need a sound interface which is intended for creating music, not an onboard sound card therefore or a sound card from the Creative Sound Blaster series for example, as these are all not intended for creating music. Brands such as Edirol, EMU, M-Audio, ESI and Tascam create sound interfaces which offer close to zero latency. I personally use an Edirol UA25-EX as a sound interface. Although I do not record guitars, one can be connected to it. A normal set up would look like this: guitar => sound interface => software. As the mix would be created within you DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), there is no need for a mixer, as it could only cause more latency. When purchasing a sound interface, make sure that you can connect your guitar to it directly. Many sound interfaces are external nowadays and connect either via USB or FireWire. For best compatibility choose USB, unless you want to record many tracks at once (drums, guitar, vocals, et cetera all at once), then choose FireWire. The advantage of an external sound interface is that it can be connected to your computer at home, or to a laptop on the round for example. When you would purchase a new computer, you can simply plug it in there. The Edirol UA25-EX is bus powered, which means that it gets its power via USB and does not require an additional power supply, which makes it very mobile; something to think about as well when purchasing a sound interface. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me.
