Recording studio questions?
I am new at this stuff: I'm only 14. I want to find a recording studio somewhere near my home. You see, I can't write lyrics to save my life, I just sing karaoke versions and such. If I wanted to make a demo, do I have to use my own lyrics and music and such.
1. Can I just bring like a CD with a karaoke song on it, and sing along?
2. How much does it normally cost to record at a studio?
3. Does it have to be an original song written by you?
So, you want to make a demo. That's good.
But, here's the problem. A real live recording studio with an engineer, etc., is going to cost you a couple of hundred bucks an hour. For your purposes, it might be overkill, if you follow me.
Why don't you get some equipment of your own and do your demo at home? Try something like this:

I know it is $300.00 and at 14, that is a lot of money, but in the long run, it will be a lot cheaper than renting a recording studio.
Lots of people have home studios - i.e. some recording equipment, a keyboard, a guitar, etc. I have one and it is a lot of fun and a great way to make a demo, too.
Either save up your money or bug your parents to buy stuff for you. You can tell them that at least you will be home and not out getting stoned or pregnant, etc. They just might fall for it.
Good luck and don't give up.
